Kitchen Tools that Pay for Themselves

The right cooking tools make home cooking easier, more enjoyable, and can actually save you money in the long run. Here are some of the kitchen tools that I reach for constantly and at this point, have paid for themselves.
Just so you know, the links on this page are affiliate links. That means if you click and buy something, I earn a tiny commission, at no extra cost to you. It’s a great way to support Good Mood Brain Food and keep my kitchen cooking. Thanks for the love!

Cast Iron Pan
An affordable pan that does it all without any toxic coatings. This is the pan I reach for 95% of the time- its a deep skillet and perfect for cooking for a family. You’ll see it in all of my videos and so many recipe pictures. I also have a smaller one that was perfect when I was cooking just for myself.

Aeropress or Moka Pot
A good coffee maker at home = major savings. I have an Aeropress I use almost daily. I love the coffee it makes but when it wears out I plan on replacing it with a plastic-free Moka Pot.

Good Quality Chef’s Knife
A sharp knife makes it easier to prep ingredients, so they actually get eaten. Plus a sharp knife is safer than a dull one, saving you money by avoiding trips to the ER. I’ve had mine for at least 10 years and its held up perfectly.

Salad Spinner
Washed greens and herbs last longer which means less wilted slimy produce going to waste.

Glass Jars and Tupperware
More durable and longer lasting than plastic ones (plus less microplastics in your food). At least where I live, you can easily find Ball jars at thrift shops or in free sidewalk piles.

Immersion Blender
Turn pantry staples into soups, sauces, and dips in seconds. Cuisinart doesn’t sell the model I have anymore (I’ve had it for probably 10 years), but linked below is the standard one they are selling and a more affordable option.

Large Soup Pot
Batch cook soups, stews, and beans to freeze. I have a Le Creuset that I LOVE but I did not pay full price for- my mom actual found it at a yard sale for $10. It was pretty grimey but cleaned up so nicely! Lodge makes a much more affordable option.
